Used to work in the Yarborough Hotel in the late 80's early 90's when still a hotel. i worked two overnight shifts, had a few strange experiences, though the other night porter ahd some really crazy stuff happen to him.
3rd floor (now closed) was pretty spooky, was only used when the hotel was busy.(not very often). Stil had to check the floor twice a night. Telephone switchboard would show when the a phone was picked up in a room, this would happen regularly in one room at around 3 in the morning on the third floor, even though room was empty.
Also was an article in the Evening Telegraph in the early 80's about mystery barking in the hotel during rennovations, workers could hear a dog barking and whimpering in the hotel. called in the RSPCA and Fire Brigade to find the dog, when they pulled up the last floorboard where they though dog was trapped the noises stopped. Thought it was something to do with George the Nightwatchman who patrolled the place in the 70's while the hotel was derelict, he had a dog to keep him company. I also heard a dog in the alleway down the side of the hotel ( between the hotel and Petit's Butchers) even though the gate was always locked shut at night.
